Graduated from the NDIS

NDIS success story -

Disability: psychosocial, Age: 24-27, Sex: Male, Name: Ben (not participants real name, he has chosen to be anonymous)

Support: Recovery coaching,

Journey: Ben lived with homelessness for two years (slept in sand dunes, shelters, parks, tent sites and crisis accommodation), compounded by complex physical health challenges, Ben navigated a demanding path involving frequent engagement with Queensland Health teams, emergency services (with over 80 touchpoints in one year), and cyclical crisis interventions.

Fast forward to (2 years) July 2024—Ben has successfully graduated from the NDIS, returned to university, and secured part-time employment, all while establishing strong natural support networks and thriving in his new chapter.

Approach: A participant-centered model combining mentoring and complex case management, a dedicated team of highly skilled support workers, strong stakeholder collaboration, and unwavering belief in the participant’s ability to achieve their goals.

Update (2025): Ben graduated himself off the NDIS as this became his goal. I now catch up with Ben as peers, Ben shares insights into his university experiences and continued personal growth. Ben has achieved something astonishing and I and the NDIS providers (allied health and independent providers) who worked alongside him found this a privilege to assist him on his journey.
